- 1 in 10 babies are born premature


- Babies born before 37 weeks are classed as premature


- Babies born before 28 weeks are classed as micro-premature


- Most premmie babies spend time in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)


- Viable gestation is believed to be at 23-24 weeks however the record for youngest premature baby to survive is 21 weeks and 5 days
